A quarter of a century.

In about ten days I'll turn twenty-five. Who would have thought I'd ever make it to the age where you're old enough to rent cars? Exciting, huh?

But, in seriousness, wasn't I supposed to have life a little more figured out by now? Maybe have a plan for the next few years that was more detailed than "write" and "find graduate programs to apply to"?

Overall, I'm a little less optimistic, a little less convinced of my own invincibility than I was at twenty-one. (Heard a sermon on aging and the shift in perspective that brings to life last Sunday. Ironically timely.) But at the same time, I've learned to dream bigger, try new things, take risks. I'm sort of coming to terms with the idea that I may not have my life "figured out" for quite a while. But in the meantime, I think these are pretty good words to [strive to] live by:

Never, in peace or war, commit your virtue or your happiness to the future. Happy work is best done by the man who takes his long-term plans somewhat lightly and works from moment to moment "as to the Lord." It is only our daily bread that we are encouraged to ask for. The present is the only time in which any duty can be done or any grace received.

In Minnesota (with my brothers) when I was 21. Mostly because I felt like posting another picture :)
